Cordero are making their way once more to the West Coast for tour dates in support of their latest album “De Dónde Eres,” released a year ago to critical acclaim. The band will be making a local stop this Saturday, August 29 at the Levitt Pavilion Memorial Park in Pasadena, an outside venue already conducive to becoming a street party, but before that, singer/guitarist Ani Cordero made time to speak with LatinoLA about her music….
Habla Blah Blah – English bilingualism with children via silly music and rockin’ classes, is proud to present a free outdoor concert starring the singers, dancers, and instructors of habla blah blah and featuring Jamey Hood, actress, singer, and children’s entertainer (formerly of the Hollywood Bowl).
habla blah blah introduces children to the sounds and words of Spanish through their self-titled music CD’s and “mommy & me” style classes. The goal is to provide children and their caregivers with Spanish phrases that are readily applicable to their everyday life, i.e. “I’m hungry/Tengo Hambre” and “I want to play!/Quiero jugar!” Music CD’s are recommended as class materials or can be enjoyed separately to promote Spanish-English bilingualism in the home. While the self-titled CD’s enjoy international distribution, classes in the Los Angeles area are growing steadily with nine different locations hosting this Fall 2009.
On Sunday The Gathering play the Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena. Woodwind maestro Jesse Sharps tethers this bunch together, keeping aflame Horace Tapscott’s Arkestra concept (been a half-century now!) with one of this town’s most exciting younger tenors, Kamasi Washington — and with a mess of other great players, some masked dancers and African drumming. We’ve raved plenty about Washington lately, getting crowds out of their seats, hollering before his solo is near halfway done (memories of Paul Gonsalves at Newport). Sharps has matched him with vocalist Dwight Trible; the acoustics are such at the Levitt that his tremendous voice will carry clear through Old Town, wafting over the busy traffic. Eerie.

An estimated 4,600 people came out to celebrate the music of Michael Jackson at the Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena on the 14th of August 2009. The band “Soul Funk” did MJ well as thousands of people were on their feet dancing the entire night.

Putumayo Kids can sate families’ musical appetites

Pack some nutritious snacks, grab your jackets in case it gets chilly and head to the Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena 7 p.m. Wednesday for the family concert, Putumayo Kids Presents Picnic Playground Featuring Rhythm Child.
Putumayo World Music has been releasing compilation CDs featuring sounds from around the globe since 1993. In 2002, it launched Putumayo Kids with the goal of offering the same wide selection of music for children.
The label has since released albums of lullabies and activity songs focused on different lands, animals, traditional dances and more. It has received Parents Choice Awards and other accolades and consistently donates a portion of sales from each effort to nonprofit groups which reach out to children.
Its latest album, “Picnic Playground,” was released July 28. The effort includes world music with lyrics in English and other languages. Listeners will learn about nutrition with U.S. artist Jay Mankita’s “Eat Like a Rainbow,” visit a farmer’s market in South Africa with Kheswa’s “Beautiful Day,” laugh at the tale of a boy who brings his cow to school during “Milch” by Germany’s Donikki and more. A tour with various artists across the United States has been launched to celebrate…
The Levitt Pavilion Pasadena will present a special Michael Jackson tribute as part of the free summer concert series on Friday, August 14 at 8PM. Pasadena based musician, Ryan Cross and his group “Soul Funk, will perform hits from the ‘King of Pop’ with special guest singers.
This group of talented musicians have performed and recorded alongside artists such as Alicia Keys, John Legend, Rihanna, Stevie Wonder, Yolanda Adams, BeBe Winans, Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Macy Gray and more.
The Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena is a non-profit organization presenting its 7th annual 50 free outdoor summer concert at Memorial Park in Old Pasadena.

The Baskery will be making their West Coast debut, traveling directly from Sweden, and will be playing a FREE show at the Levitt Pavilion Pasadena on August 13 at 8PM. This unique trio of sisters create a high voltage syle of their own, twisting the sounds of country and alternative and forming sounds they call “banjo-punk”, “mud-country”, and “killbilly.”
Their latest album Fall Among Thieves, which will be available at the Levitt concert, was recorded together with Lasse Marten (Lykke Li, Pink, Sahara Hotnights, Peter Bjorn & john, etc.)
